BULOG Bring Rice Closer to the Disaster-Prone Locations
Perum BULOG Regional Division (Divre) Jambi move the rice stocks closer to the disaster-prone areas/location in order to quickly distribute the rice to the victim if at any time natural disasters occur, considering the upcoming rainy season.
Head of Public Service Department Divre Jambi Setio Wastono, on Monday said, anticipating the occurrence of natural disasters, in the form of landslides, cyclones and floods during the current rainy season, Bulog is now alert by preparing “rice stocks for disasters”.
"Rice stocks were brought near to areas or locations prone to disaster, in each district at least 100 tons have been prepared," he said.
The rice can be distributed at any time in the event of natural disasters to help victims in meeting the need of staple food.
Meanwhile, rice stock in the province of Jambi is reserved as much as 200 tons. In the event of shortages, the amount could be added by importing from rice-producing areas.
Rice reserve for disaster preparedness will always be available, and will immediately been added if the amount is insufficient. Even if the amount is huge, the rice will still be brought to disaster areas.
In separate occasion, Head of Social Service, Manpower and Resettlement Province of Jambi A. Harris said that his department has also been preparing various equipment and supplies in anticipating natural disasters as the impact of the rainy season.
Besides rice that is deposited in BULOG’s warehouses Bulog in various areas, the needs of other food such as instant noodles, milk, sugar, vegetable oil and others also have been prepared.
Preparation of fixtures and evacuation equipment, such as a shelter, soup kitchen, rubber boats, a variety of vehicles to transport goods and people has also been set.
"Officers from various agencies now also been set up posts in their respective regions, which at any time can coordinate with the local Department of Social Service, Manpower and Resettlement in theevent of natural disasters,”said A Harris (dla).
